Valery Price In Less Than Thirty Minutes...

Hearing my mother sing when I was younger inspired me to love and appreciate music, but it took one elementary school talent show to be the catalyst for my career as a singer. Since then I have been involved with school and university choirs, as well as other public events, receiving various awards and honors including the Non-Finalist Talent award at the Miss Missouri Pageant (part of the Miss America Pageant system). While attending the University of Missouri in Columbia, I was a member of University Singers, the honor choir of the university. I was also a member of Hitt Street Harmony, a small jazz choral group that helped develop my love for jazz music.

My musical career has taken me across the nation as well as to other parts of the world. I have traveled to, and participated in group competitions in Washington D.C., England and France. I have also traveled across the nation performing from Los Angeles to New York, Michigan to Texas. I currently perform in the Kansas City area as a lead and back-up vocalist on a variety of projects.

Believe it or not, I also have a few projects and talents veryfew know about.  I have some theater work in my background, which includes productions such as Big River and The Pirates of Penzance.  I also have worked as an extra for some television and flim projects such as The Parkers and Entourage.  Locally, I have recorded a radio jingle or two for Time Warner, and I was the Visit MO! voice people heard on the radio last summer.

As multi-talented as I may be, my first love of course is music, and singing is what I love to do.  I was recognized by the Pitch in 2004 in their "Best Female R&B Performer," and I was the winner of Bar Natasha Idol 2006. I also have been recognized by the KC Star in 2006 as being one of "...Kansas City's emerging artists on the cusp of fame," in the article "On the Verge."

Other than that, I have a cello, a piano, and a guitar for my own pleasure.  However, the only thing you will see in my hands besides a microphone will be a tambourine, and I do play a mean tambourine if I do say so myself.

WHAT/WHERE: The Styles and Places I Perform...

I sing various styles that include Jazz,
Swing, Latin, Blues, Motown, Contemporary
R&B, Country, and more. I have well over
200 cover songs in my repertoire, and I
compose original works as well. I also do occasional voice-overs and other various
recording projects.

I have formed duos, trios and quartets that  perform for private parties and residences
as well as at public venues such as The
Country Club Plaza, Ivy's, Raoul's, Hannah
Bistro, Café Trio, The Beaumont Club,  Bar Natasha, The Jazzhaus, The Grand Emporium,
The Blue Room, Jardine’s, Union Station, and the Nelson Art Museum.

Private venues include the grand ballrooms of The Intercontinental Hotel, Crown Center, Kansas City Club,  The Carriage Club, and many of the country clubs and hotels around the Kansas City area.

I have been known to also travel outside of the KC area for performances.
WHO: I Perform With...

Some [local] groups I have worked with to date:

Becky Berry and Fullhouse, Owen-Cox Ensemble,  Sellout (Steve Ozark), The Little Boulevard Band (Mike McGraw), Bake and the Tenderhearts (Smokey Robinson and the Miracles Revue show), Neon Blue (Allen Blasco), Midnight Revue (James Rojas), Joe Athon Band, Souled Out (Jack Eichman),  Atlantic Express, Steve Miller’s Big Band, The Fairway Trio, KC Prime (Don Desmond), Musication (Mike O'Shiver, Max Berry), The Inferno Club (James Isaac) and the VP ensembles (Valery Price Quartet or Trio).

In otherwords, I can sing a capella (sans the instruments), or I can sing with a 16 piece big band.  It's all beautiful music to me...
